August 20, 2009- Our first appointment
Today Jim and I met with the nurse practitioner to go over health history and to fill out some paperwork. After giving all health details of our immediate family and their cousins and their cousins and their cousins, the nurse told us that we were coming into this pregnancy with a great history. Next, she went over all the different tests and screens we can have done, when they were completed and how they were completed. We got numerous fliers to research and a few parting gifts as well. Jim and I both left feeling very overwhelmed and bit like “holy crap”. It’s super hard at this point not to just spill the beans and get advice from our many pregnant/mommy friends and our moms. The nurse gave me a few tips on how to combat morning sickness because I had started to feel pretty cruddy in the mornings. She let me know that it was common for women to have to get medication to help them through the first trimester. My next appointment is set for September 3 with the doctor. Hopefully after this appointment, we’ll be able to spill the beans! This secret keeping is awful!
