Happy 14 months, little man!
Life, According to Paxton at 14 months:
~Paxton is now happily cast free! He is getting more and more brave about walking and has started stringing together 6 or 7 steps on a pretty regular basis. Crawling is still his preferred mode of transportation, and probably will continue to be for awhile, because he's so darn fast at it!
~Paxton fully understands the word no and knows what he is and is not supposed to do. For example, he knows he's not supposed to play with the dog's water or food. He will start to crawl towards it, look back at you, then kick it into high gear to try to beat you to the water/food. Hence, his continued use of crawling.
~Other 'no' activities that he considers fun: sticking his fingers down his throat (that's a fun one), hitting his head with his hands, chewing on the table, playing with daddy's computer cord,
~Paxton is a book worm, with a capital B. He would be content to sit in his book corner and flip through books for hours on end. He usually doesn't have the patience to sit through a book being read to him, unless it's short, with few words on a page, and/or has things for him to do (open a flap, turn the page, touch something).
~Paxton's receptive vocabulary continues to grow by the day! Every day he surprises us with things that we didn't even know he knew! Jim happened to ask Paxton where his toes were one day, and he reached right for them! Who knew!
~Paxton can identify his toes and someone else's nose. He hasn't quite gotten his nose down yet, but loves to point to (or stick his finger up) other people's noses.
~Pointing continues to be Pax's main mode of communication. There is rarely a time when Paxton is not pointing at something. His favorite time to point is post-bottle, pre-bedtime. I think he tries to delay bedtime by requesting that I get him a million different stuffed animals.
~Paxton is also turning into a Chatty Cathy. He loves to "read" books. They usually sound like this "ball. ball ball ball ball. ball ball. ball?" Some new words include banana (nanana), grandpa (baba), and night night.
~(excuse my school psych language, but....) Paxton has been engaging in imaginative play! He picked up the remote control a few weeks ago, put it to his ear, and said "Hello?" This has become a new favorite activity, and he usually does it with remotes and/or phones.
~Our little man continues to be a champion eater. Thankfully his loud whining during meals has calmed down and he only fusses quietly when he doesn't have food. We've recently started giving him a plate with food, along with a spoon and fork, instead of just putting finger food on his tray. He's slowly attempting to use the utensils, but usually just holds them while grabbing food with his hand. The only foods he continues to dislike are all fruits besides bananas and applesauce. He has never met a veggie he doesn't like!
~Paxton is still getting two/three 6 oz bottles a day. Now that mommy is home for summer vacation, the goal is transition him completely to sippy cups. I really don't see it being a struggle because he is pretty good about drinking out of sippy cups! I'll be happy to store the bottles away for awhile!
~Paxton continues to grow like a weed. He is mainly in 18- to 24- month clothes. Onesies, overalls, and pjs typically have to be 24 month to fit his long body! We'll go back to the doctor in July for his 15 month appointment so we'll get to see how big he is!
~Paxton also continues to be happily rear-facing in his car seat. He usually loves to ride in the car and loves to flip toys over his head and hit whoever is driving.
~Our good little sleeper continues! He's usually in bed by 7:30 at night and really struggles if we try to keep him up any later. He's usually awake between 6 and 7 and takes two good naps a day.
