Our hospital stay

Since Delaney was born in the early hours of 5/19, we had the option of staying one additional night or two additional nights (assuming that all tests came back okay for D and myself).  I was eager to get home to the boys!  One of the tests that D had to pass was her blood sugar.  Since she was a big baby, she had to have her blood sugar tested to ensure it was above a certain level.  Thankfully, she passed each blood test with flying colors!  She also received a vaccine and they monitored her bilirubin levels.

While I was pregnant with D, we were sent to a pediatric cardiologist to get an echo due to Sawyer's heart defect.  The first echo was inconclusive at the doc saw one part on her heart that was questionable.  He also that I come back in a month.  It was a long month!  When he did the second echo, he still saw the same suspicious spot but was convinced there wasn't a hole because the spot was only visible from one view.  I was then dismissed from the pediatric cardiologist and told that they would be recommending an echo when D was born.

Fast forward to Thursday afternoon, the pediatrician on staff at the hospital reported that he heard a murmur while listening to her heart.  Those were the same words that were spoken to us before they found the large hole in Sawyer's heart.  Not something we wanted to hear.  They said that babies often have murmurs after they're born and they wanted to wait until morning to see if the murmur was still there before ordering an echo.  Unfortunately, they did still hear a murmur Friday morning so D had to have an echo.  She had the echo at 10:30 and we had to wait until almost 4 before we heard the results.  No holes!  Thank God!  They explained that the vessels that go from her heart to her lungs were slightly small for her size and were causing the murmur.  This is common with babies and something that she will grow out of.  There is no need to follow up with the pediatric cardiologist- woohoo!

Once we heard that news and they checked her bilirubin levels one more time, we were finally able to go home!  The boys were so excited for us to be home and wanted to cover D in kisses :)

And so begins our life as a family of 5!
